After qualifying prelims examination there are three  things  which matter most :

Mains compulsory subjects papers6 Descriptive Papers1100
Mains optional subject papers2 Descriptive Papers400
Interview / Personalty testDocument verification / Post Choice preference100
Total marks1600

Following is list of compulsory papers:

1. General Hindi    150
2. Essay    150
3. General Studies (First Paper)   200
4. General Studies (Second Paper)    200
5. General Studies (Third Paper)   200
6. General Studies (Fourth Paper)   200
      6 papers 1100
  1. Compulsory Subject Papers Shall be Conventional type and for solving the questions 3 hours time is allowed.
  2. For optional Question papers 3 hours time is allowed. 
  3. Timing of examination paper of 3 hours i.e. 9.30 am to 12.30 pm & 2 pm to 5 pm. 
  4.  A candidate shall be required to obtain such minimum marks in the compulsory paper of General Hindi, as may be determined by the Government or the Commission, as the case may be. 
  5. There shall be Two sections in all the question papers of Optional subject and each section will include Four questions.
  6.  Candidates are required to answer only Five questions while they must select minimum Two questions from each section. 

The candidates have to select any one subject from the list of optional subjects for main examination which will consist of two papers.

After you qualify mains examination you appear for interview where you fill up form for posts and your documents verification is done.


The test will relate to the matter of general interest keeping the matter of academic interest in view and for general awareness, intelligence, character, expression power/personality and general suitability for the service.

Commission is going to reduce the weightage of the interview. from 2018 onwards, the interview will be of only 100 marks while till last year it was of 200 marks.
